I promise to try harder

to remember to do this everyday. I am sorry I have forgotten this week. It has totally skipped my mind. I had to leave right away yesterday to get home and had to teach religion class today after school in my daughter's class. I will put a post it on my computer so I won't leave until I add a post for the day. Please have your child remind me to post a post it. Thanks.

I had such a great week with you all. I love the level of participation you give me and the energy you bring to school. I enjoyed record levels of classwork and homework completion! Enjoy the weather this weekend, especially after last weekend's rain...YUK! I will look forward to another week of great learning and fun times.

Language - Bring a rock to school (please not one bigger than your hand)

Social Studies - Where you live review (kids need to understand their city, state, country, continent, the oceans and continents, and which countries border the United States) This should be something your child talks about with you so they can understand the world and where they are on it. There will be a brief quiz tomorrow.

Spelling - Unit 3 3 activities due from contract on Friday Test will be on Friday

Math - 4G - (2 pages)worksheet and 2.1 study links - kids are to write numbers in a sentence telling where they saw them or what they mean, or (with your permission, of course) cut and paste them from a newspaper or magazine. Parents, please take the Parent Letter and keep it somewhere you will remember - it has important information about the upcoming chapter and includes the answers to the links attached to the unit. HELPFUL!!!
4S - no homework

Reading - read at least 20 minutes - we started discussing a new word today - if you have any words that you think are interesting, bring it in with the meaning!

Have your child talk to you about the Bully Prevention program we have been participating in this week. They are learning ways to deal with all kinds of bullying and teasing. Talk to them openly about how they deal with this at school and at home.

PRETZEL GEOMETRY

Ask your child about the "Pretzel Geometry" we did today..food is a great way for your child to understand shapes..you can use cheese or bread, give them a butter knife or toothpick and have them create shapes with different numbers of sides and have them give the angels on each corner a name (right, obtuse, or acute angle). You can use pretzel sticks, too, to let them create intersecting, perpendicular, or parallel lines (have them use their SRB to help).

Writing - "What's in a name?" sheet - to be completed by parent and child - due for a writing activity we are doing next week.

Math - 4S - 1.7
4G - Test next Friday - please study the following concepts in the SRB, which your child should have brought home (polygons convex and nonconvex), angles, lines, line segments, rays, perpendicular and parallel line, circles - concentric and nonconcentric, vertex, intersecting lines, attributes of trapezoids, Parallelograms, quadrangles, and triangles) The study guide will come home on Tuesday and they have a simple subtraction and addition fact sheet (2 sided) that is due on Tuesday.

Reading - Read 20 minutes
We are having our reading test on The Gardener on THURSDAY next week - it was supposed to be on Wednesday, but we will have it on Thursday due to missing a day of literacy study this week. Have your child read the story and discuss it with you this weekend.

Scholastic money - we are using Scholastic News and a reading newspaper called Story Works..this costs $12. Please send a check made out to Scholastic or cash. These are extremely useful and valuable parts of our reading curriculum.
