You can be on this site!!!

Would you like to write or have your picture on this site?

Kids - If you would like to write something special to share with the class - maybe a special moment, a family tradition, a funny picture, have your parents email it to me and I will make a special place just for you on the blog site! Your friends can see it and you will be a published author!!

Fun in 4G

Have your kids tell you about the cooperative learning they did today with a game called "Heads Together." Today we did it about what we all celebrate this time of year. Our classmates celebrate Eid and Christmas. ALso, have them tell you about our brain activator called A, B, C, D. Have them show you! We are being introduced to our singers and next week, we will present them to the class. Your child will bring home their work tomorrow, along with Progress Reports that are coming home. The kids had fun trying to perfect a "James Brown" yell and did some mulitplication multiples to a song by Jimmy Buffett (too fast) and Sting. Who said learning can't be fun!

Is anyone using this site?

I specifically didn't use this last week to see if anyone would write me an email to remind me. I want to use this site as a tool to share info with you. I understand there are days I forget and that is why it is an additional tool to use for information, but I wonder if this is something you feel helpful enough for me to continue. Please email me at christi_grezlik@ipsd.org and let me know if you will use this. If I ever go more than one day, please call me or email me and just write, "This is just a reminder that you didn't post yesterday." This is just a busy time of year and I am not getting any younger. Reminders are so appreciated!

With all that said, here is the homework for today:

Please talk to your child if they brought home Social Studies today, your child should have finished that in class, as well as the math journal page 91. If your child brought thesse 2 things home, they need to be working more efficiently in class (ie. not talking or looking around, but focusing on the work at hand and asking for help if needed.)

UPDATE

Hello, everyone!
I hope you all are having a great weekend! We had a terrific party on Friday, lots of fun! I'd like to thank the moms who came in and provided lots of fun games. Thank you to Mrs. Dresser, Mrs. Klopp, and Mrs. Ahern. A big thanks also goes out to Mrs. Harazin, who provided all the special goody bag items. You all were extremely generous with your time and resources. Thank you!

Just a few reminders for this week:
Wednesday is Picture Day - if you want to purchase picture packages for your child, be sure to send the forms and money in by Wed.

We are currently reading the story, "Lou Gehrig." We will have a test on Thursday.

4th grade math students will have a study guide come home on Thursday and it is due on Monday. The test will be on Tuesday, October 28. I try to plan to not have homework like this over the weekend, but it just worked out this way. We will complete some of it in class, but I am sure some kids will need to complete it (possibly with some guidance and support from you) over next weekend. Thank you in advance for your help in this.

Please let me know if the conference time and day that I sent home will work for you. I need to finalize my schedule this week, so please email me or call.

This week marks the end of the first quarter, with report cards going home next Friday.

Thanks for checking in!

NOTICE Monday, 10-6-08

Notes for this week:
We will have our Reading test on "My Name is Maria Isabel" on Thursday this week.

Our Fall Party is next Friday, October 17 at 2:15p.m. If you can come in and help, we guarantee you will have a fun time!

Parent conferences are the first part of November. If you didn't sign up for a time, I will send home an assigned date and time. You need to email me or call me to change the day and time, if necessary. If you know right now what day or day you would like your conference, I will try to accommodate you. I can also plan other days for conferences if it works better for your schedule. A phone conference is also a option, although I greatly encourage you coming in to talk. I am perfectly fine with you bringing in your child to the conference.

Please keep a keen eye on your child's progression in math fact study. We try to offer 2 opportunities to pass to a new level test each week. THere is one 2 minute test each week. These tests come home for you to see. If you would like additional tests to have your child practice at home, please let me know. For your child to progress, extra practice may be needed at home. Each child is on a different level..have your child make a set of flashcards for home use. I am doing everything I can to provide time for this valuable knowledge to sink in, but for some kids, the work we do in class is not enough. Thant you for your help!!

Back to School

How exciting! We are in the middle of our first week of school and I still can't believe my luck. Not only do I get the chance to work at a school with a staff I admire, respect, and LIKE, I also get a class full of wonderful little (ok, some are my height) people I get to enjoy for 6 1/2 hours a day as well. I began a blog this summer for learning purposes and now I get to use what I have learned. Fortunately (and obviously, to some of you), I have a lot to learn about how to create a unique website. After permission has been granted, I can begin posting photos and videos on this site to let you, as parents, see what we are doing in the classroom. I will post homework on this site and general info. This will be just another way to communicate with you, but it will not be the only way I get information to you. There is nothing like a good old phone call or letter to let you know how things are going with your child. Your child is a unique and special person, and I want you to know what is happening with them during the time they are in school. My hope is that this site will act as a catalyst to help you talk to your child about their day. I will not put personal information on this site, but general information, dates, and reminders. Know that you can call me or email me at any time. See the info on the side bar of the site for that info. I am open to suggestions about what information you would like to see on the site. I am looking to a year full of fun and learning. Enjoy!
