This is December?

I hope everyone enjoyed the nice warm weather today.  As much as I try to act like I don't mind it, I really do.  It's DECEMBER!  It's supposed to be cold.  I am supposed to wear a scarf, and mittens, and a hat.  Kids should not be wearing FLIP FLOPS to school on December 3!!!  It's just wrong.  Of course, I say this half-jokingly, since no one can control the weather! It's really quite fun to see kids in flip-flops in December.  But I just can't fully enjoy it.  See, the thing I really want is snow.  Just a teeny bit.  Just a flake.  Even just to see one little spec of snow in the forecast would make me happy!  But, no!  No snow.  Not a chance.  Not all week.  :-(

There are BRIGHT parts to this week, however!  Today we had some wonderful genre presentations.  I LOVE learning new things through the informational text and historical fiction genres. There are quite a few mysteries this month as well.  Reading mystery requires the reader to be very attentive to the details - it is very easy to miss some of the clues given by the author.  I look forward to listening to many more presentations tomorrow.

Presentations were also made during science this afternoon.  We learned about types of cells, shapes of cells, photosynthesis, and much more.  This week, we will learn the parts of a microscope and how to use a microscope to study cells.  I PROMISE!!!

In writing, we are beginning work on our next assigned piece of work.  It is a 5 paragraph essay on the things in our life that we LOVE....things that make us happy...things that make our life brighter.  Now, there are many things we are grateful for in our lives like our parents, our homes, and having nice clean water for a bath.  However, the things I want you to focus on for your writing are the things in your life that make you so EXCITED, you just can't wait until they happen.  Some examples are playing a brand new video game that you've been waiting to play, sleeping in over Winter Break, having a sleepover with a couple close friends, getting to go to a movie you've been looking forward to, spending time with cousins whom you rarely see, etc.  While your family, homes, and bathrooms are things you are happy to have, the things you choose to write about should not be things that are there for you every day.  They should be special things that you don't have access to daily.  We will continue to develop this understanding in class tomorrow.  I bet you know one thing that will be in MY writing.....SNOW!!!
I may need to resort to this stuff if this trend continues!!
