Short but Sweet....

That is this week...short and sweet!   Today, we had some excitement as we began our research on our Revolutionary War figures.  Each student got to choose from a list of people important to the war and today we headed to the lab to do some online research using sites that were linked to my blog.  The students were directed to organize their research as they found it into categories like early life, family, education, achievements, etc.  This will help them as they go to USE their research into the assigned format.  Feel free to continue the research at home.  We will move on to using encyclopedias, our social studies textbook, and other book sources here at school.

Today we also enjoyed learning about Henri Matisse during Art Awareness with Mrs. Gudgeon.  The students created some abstract art using many paper choices.  I would love to display some of these in the classroom when students are finished so please remind your child to bring back their art work when done.

As this is Black History Month, today we read about Benjamin Banneker, the first black man to write and have an almanac published.  It directly ties in with our studies of the American Revolution as Banneker was a supporter of equal rights and actually published a letter he wrote to Thomas Jefferson criticizing him for "talking the talk," but not "walking the walk,"  when it came to equal rights for all men.  We talked about how it is important to speak up for what we believe, even if that means writing the President himself!

Tonight is the Science Fair from 6:30 - 8:00. Come support your classmates if you can.

Homework tonight:
Math - my class has journal page 175 - 176, study your notes and the highlighted words on page 176
The other two classes have a sheet of homework as well...

Reading - Bring your PRB each day.  The next genre project is due March 4.  You should be finishing your reading and begin working on the project.  Be thoughtful when reading the directions for your project and be complete when doing your project.  Remember - presentations should be 2-5 minutes in length, so PRACTICE AT HOME!

Work Work - 30 points of work due Tuesday.  Test will be Tuesday.
